Friday I’m In Love: The Polish Science Fiction Poster Edition

Yesterday we looked at some Polish film posters, and then we cried in a corner for a bit.

Look at this – guess what this is the poster for?

Did you say Weekend At Bernie’s? Of course you didn’t. Why would you?

In the comments Tim said “Awww, you should’ve held on and revealed the answers next week, after we’d all made fools of ourselves guessing wrongly.”

Your wish is my command. Here’s round 2 – below are details from six Polish posters for well-known science fiction films. Can you name these films? Answers will be posted next Friday, feel free to share your workings in the comments section at the bottom of the page.

Poster images come from http://www.polishposter.com and http://www.cinemaposter.com, but remember you’re only cheating yourself.

So what have we learnt from the Institute this week?

Brian Trenchard-Smith, director of Dead End Drive-In, Turkey Shoot and BMX Bandits left a comment to say “Today we stand at the dawn of a new era in Australian Film.”

The ultimate cheap science fiction show would feature characters in a Big White Void, wearing exploding collars and battling invisible telepaths, while walking against a scary wind.

You can live on only four ingredients, but would you want to?

Polish artists need more hugs.

Incidentally, I’ve spent the last three days sick as a very ill dog, so there may be only sporadic transmissions from the Institute next week. Until then…

  1. Sam says:

    Hope your feeling better… my guesses are;

    1: The invisible man
    2: Fahrenheit 451 (part 5)
3: Godzilla versus the One Handed Pink Man
4: I, Robot (snort coke badlly)
5: ??? The day the earth stood still… Lord of the Rings…, Alphaville….
    6: The Time Machine

  2. Tim says:

Crikey, I wish I hadn’t said that now! Number 3 is a Godzilla film obviously – Godzilla vs The Kipper Tie? Could Number 1 be Alien? Will have to give the others some more thought.

  3. Dan Cardone says:

    1) Squiddly Blue Eyes
    2) Five Fingers to Doom
    3) I Dream of Godzilla
    4) Steelbob Squarehead
    5) The Literal Diagram Movie
    6) I have Time in my Mouth

    Sorry, it’s very late here…

I think the first one is ALIEN, and I know the last one The Time Machine, and I do think 3 is something Godzilla related, perhaps Godzilla Vs The Beatles?

  4. Dave AA says:

“The ultimate cheap science fiction show would feature characters in a Big White Void, wearing exploding collars and battling invisible telepaths, while walking against a scary wind.”

You could have saved time and just typed “The Tomorrow People”

    I’m going to guess;
    1) X: The Man With the X-Ray Eyes
    2) Rollerball (which is to say I can’t even think of a good guess)
    3) Godzilla (aren’t we all?)
    4) Logan’s Run
    5) 2001: A Space Odyssey
    6) The Time Machine

  5. Janet says:

Is the second one Slaughterhouse 5? I can see I’m going to be doing this bit by bit.

  6. Anne-Marie says:

I’m cheating – cos I’m not good at waiting – but have yet to find them all.

I have noted that – for some reason – ‘children are the devil’ posters are very literal. See The Omen and Rosemary’s Baby (version 2) at cinemaposter.com

  7. Anne-Marie says:

This is better than trying to find Wally. It’s my new favourite game.

  8. Janet says:

The sixth one must be ‘The Time Machine’. It’s the hairdo. Number four ‘2001’ maybe. I think the’ve tried to blindside us by giving Hal an extra eye. Is the first one anything to do with any of the bodysnatcher movies?

And John, I don’t know whether Polish artists need more hugs but they definitely need less drugs.

  9. Glenn says:

    1.Invasion of the Body Snatchers
    2. Terminator 2: Judgement Day (ie; i have no idea)
    3. to be original I’m going to say Journey to the Centre of the Earth
    4. 2001: A Space Odyssey
    5. Solaris
    6. The Time Machine (cause of the clock)

  10. Dan Cardone says:

I’ve just found out what image number 2 REALLY is. And boy am I shocked.

  11. Edward says:

    OK, let’s have a crack…

    1. Fantastic Voyage
    2. Short Circuit (am slightly embarrassed this is the first thing that came to mind when faced with the combination ‘science fiction’ and ‘No.5’)
    3. Godzilla eats the Yellow Submarine
    4. Terminator
    5. 2001 – A Space Odyssey
    6. The Time Machine
